David M. Alt is a partner who regularly represents clients in a wide variety of litigation matters, with particular emphasis on serving large transportation and insurance company clients. In particular, David regularly counsels clients and represents their interests in cases involving contractual disputes, the Federal Employers’ Liability Act, insurance coverage, reinsurance, products liability, professional liability, insurer bad faith, and employment covenants not to compete.
David has obtained several favorable jury and bench trial verdicts as well as binding arbitration awards. Recently, he was lead trial attorney for a railroad contractor in a three-week jury trial wherein he won a defense verdict in his client’s favor. Just prior trial, the last settlement demand to his client was in excess of $5 million. He has also successfully tried to verdict cases involving accounting malpractice, employee covenants not compete, and insurance and reinsurance disputes involving long-tail environmental property damage.
He received a J.D. from Loyola University, Chicago School of Law, where he was a member of the Chicago Bar Association Moot Court Team and received CALI awards for highest grades in Legal Writing and Advocacy. He received a B.B.A. in Business Finance, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Wisconsin, Eau Claire.
David is admitted to the Illinois and Wisconsin Bars. He is also a member of the trial bar for the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. David is active in several professional organizations including the Defense Research Institute, the Illinois Association of Trial Counsel, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Wisconsin Bar Association. |
